Working from his studio in Oxford, United Kingdom, Swart constructs his works using concrete, wood, steel and traditional artists materials. Many of the artists themes focus on memory, time and that which is inaccessible.
Blackie Swart uses a variety of materials to produce mostly abstract works that harbour a nuanced even delicate perspective on memory, lost places/abandoned spaces and the ways in which personal history intersects with the built world.
On the surface, Swart’s work scans as stark and minimal yet even a fleeting glimpse reveals intricate textures which suggest the emotional depths that so often define individual responses to the material world.
